Careers Programme
Careers education and guidance programmes make a major contribution to preparing young people for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of life. A planned progressive programme of activities supports our pupils to choose pathways that match their personal qualities, interests and goals.
Careers education is provided as a comprehensive programme throughout years 7-9 during a timetabled lesson as part of the PSHE program. Additional guidance is delivered during assemblies and form time at appropriate times throughout the academic year.
A qualified Level 6 Careers Advisor is on site a minimum of one day of every week. All Year 11 pupils are provided with at least one face-to-face interview to assist with post-16 transition and further appointments are made available for those pupils when additional support is required.
We welcome enquiries from parents and carers, representatives of local industry and educational providers. This information is updated yearly with our Provider Access Policy below.
"Every student will leave Wayland Academy feeling optimistic about their future and confident in their ability to determine and achieve their long-term goals."
To get in contact with our Careers Lead Sali Martin you can either email through the link below or get in touch through the school office on 01953 881514.
Information, advice and guidance services
We aim to provide support and encouragement to access learning opportunities for students’ personal and professional development in a relaxed and informal atmosphere. On occasions where we are unable to meet a student’s needs, we will refer them to an appropriate alternative institution or organisation.
Careers advice and guidance is offered to any student at Wayland Academy, by appointment and timetabled drop in sessions. If you would like to make an appointment to speak to the Careers Advisor, please speak to Miss Martin. Meetings are conducted by Beacon East.
Careers advice and guidance is offered on a full range of careers issues, including further and higher education courses, employment prospects, the completion of job/college application forms and the preparation of a curriculum vitae.
A comprehensive range of written information is available on the courses available at the local Colleges, sixth forms and higher education providers. This includes prospectuses for full and part time courses, application forms, information about specific courses, guidance on additional learning support services and the contact details for a wide range of education and training establishments. Information is available on paper and electronically in English only.
Please note that although we can listen to students’ needs, give advice and guidance on courses and present a range of options for progression, we cannot make choices for the students concerned.
